Booking and timing
Two to three weeks of notice is comfortable for most local moves, and longer for a long-distance job or a large house. End-of-month weekends and the summer season book up first, so an earlier call gives you more choice of date and time.
If another company canceled on short notice and you are in a bind, call anyway. Schedules shift more than people expect, and we will give you a straight answer about whether the job can be worked in.
Weekday mornings in the middle of the month, outside of the summer stretch, are usually the easiest slots to book on short notice.
What is included in an estimate
A local estimate covers crew size, truck size, and estimated hours based on a walk-through of your home. A long-distance estimate is based on the weight of the load and the mileage, confirmed on a certified scale once the truck is loaded.
Both types of estimate are given in writing before your date is confirmed, and both are updated honestly if the scope changes on the day.
Appliances, furniture, and specialty items
We move refrigerators, washers, dryers, and ranges as a regular part of the job, and we handle furniture disassembly and reassembly the same way. Items that need special handling, such as a large safe or an aquarium, should be mentioned during the estimate so we can plan the right equipment.
There is no charge for asking whether we can handle something unusual. Most of the time the answer is yes, and we would rather know ahead of time than discover it on the truck.
After the move
If you booked unpacking, the crew continues until boxes are emptied into cabinets and closets and the cardboard is hauled away. If not, we do a final walk-through with you to confirm everything made it off the truck before we leave.
Any question that comes up after the crew has gone, such as a piece that needs adjusting, is worth a call. We would rather fix it than have you live with it.
We also get asked whether a move can be split across two days, usually for a family closing on the new house a day after they move out of the old one. That is workable with enough notice, and we can talk through storage options for the gap.
