Start with what you are not taking
Before a single box gets taped shut, walk each room and pull out anything you would not pay to move. Donation drop-off points around Roswell are easy to find, and a lighter load means fewer boxes and less time on move day.
The garage and the attic are almost always where the extra volume hides. Go through those spaces first, while you still have the energy for it, rather than leaving them until the night before the move.
Label for the unload, not the pack
Write the destination room on two sides of every box rather than the top, since boxes get stacked and the top disappears from view. Label it for the room it is going to in the new house, even if that name does not match where it sat in the old one.
A short note on the contents helps too. Coffee maker and mugs written on the outside of a box means breakfast on the first morning instead of opening five kitchen boxes to find it.
Pack heavy items in small boxes
Books belong in small boxes, not the largest one you can find, because a full box of books is too heavy to carry safely and too likely to split at the bottom. Save the large boxes for pillows, linens, and other light, bulky items.
Tape every seam on the bottom of a box twice if you plan to fill it with anything dense, since a single strip of tape rarely holds under real weight.
Plan around the Georgia calendar
Late spring through summer is the busiest moving season across the metro, partly because school lets out and partly because many leases turn over then. Moving in early spring or fall usually means more open dates and cooler conditions for loading a truck.
If a summer date is the only option, request the earliest arrival window the schedule allows. A crew that begins at seven in the morning has the heavy furniture loaded before the afternoon heat sets in.
Keep a first night box with you
Bedding, towels, chargers, medications, and a change of clothes belong in a clear bin that rides in your own car, not on the truck. You will be glad to have it at ten at night in an unfamiliar house.
